History

The Elkhorn Valley Economic Development Council was the brainchild of long-range planning sessions held by the Action Council. Interested in becoming a bigger player in the Nebraska Economic Development scene, promoting regionalism and recruiting new opportunities and residents to the area, the Action Council determined it was in their best interest to create an entity to serve the Norfolk Micropolitan area. This entity, the Elkhorn Valley Economic Development Council, was officially adopted in December 2001 and initially included eight communities within the four-county area.

In 2002 the newly formed Council was granted non-profit status, further cementing EVEDC’s role as an area resource rather than a profit-seeking entity. Throughout the 10+ years of the EVEDC, the Council has been instrumental in bringing new jobs and opportunities to the area. Currently, our service area includes 14 counties within three counties. The Elkhorn Valley Economic Development Council of today has developed personal and interdependent relations with various leaders throughout the three counties. In addition to assisting with business attraction, expansion, retention and start-ups, the EVEDC works cohesively with Black Hills Energy, City of Norfolk, Dream it Do it, Nebraska Business Development Center, Nebraska Community Foundation, Nebraska Department of Economic Development, Nebraska Public Power District, Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau, Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Community College, Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, USDA Rural Development and the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide valuable services to our members. In working with each of these agencies, the EVEDC strives to stimulate local industry and improve the well-being of area residents through teamwork and close-knit relationships with business and community leaders throughout the area.

With a youthful and motivated staff, the future of the EVEDC and Elkhorn Valley area looks bright. The EVEDC would like to thank you for your ongoing support and patronage.
